Your raft is filled with close friends from college and work - there is a tight personal bond holding you together. Almost without speaking, in unison you lift the raft from the trailer and into the water. . . You have to think about it at first but you get used to your guides commands. Before you know it the raft is negotiating the river like a well disciplined team.

It is warm so you each take your turn jumping off the raft and floating in the river. The view is spectacular! The valley walls are carved from 100s of years of water run off. You can see layers, almost like a sandwich, from the top to nearly the river. All around you are trees, birds, beavers and fish.

Floating down the river, the faint roar becomes louder and louder. Your guide calls everyone back in the raft. Approaching is your first Class IV rapid of the trip. You can smell the river spray from below, the mist falls on your face cooling it. The roar is almost deafening. Although there is plenty of water around you, your mouth becomes dry from nervousness. "Man this looks intense," you think. "Right side forward!" Barks your guide from behind, "Like you mean it!"
