Day One:
Your first stop is along California's central coast where you will partake in California's highest tandem skydive. The view from 18,000 feet is literally breath taking but no worries - an oxygen mask is provided. While enjoying the wind in your hair falling at 120 mph you will have a commanding view of the beautiful coastline to the west. To the east, when atmospheric conditions permit, you can almost see Mount Whitney. Imagine being able to see the eastern and western boundaries of California at the same time! When your parachute opens your ride becomes quieter. As your senses return and your brain catches up, your instructor will point out other scenic points of interest. Also, if weather conditions allow, you will be given the opportunity to fly your parachute to landing. With your instructor's help, you will be taught how to turn, control speed and land your parachute!
Your second stop will be in Central Oregon, known for its incredibly diverse terrain, sparkling clean fresh air, uncrowded conditions and laid-back atmosphere. Upon landing you will be immediately whisked away for a scenic hike. Depending on the month & heat of the day, you can choose between Smith Rock State Park or Tumalo Falls State Park - two unique and gorgeous locations. This hike will give everyone a chance to stretch their legs, get acclimated to the altitude and see the beauty of Central Oregon. Hikers will notice the air is dryer and a little thinner as you take in the wonderful sights and scents of Central Oregon.
After freshening up and checking into the hotel, you will head downtown for a private wine tasting at Volcano Vineyards, which specializes in small lot and lesser-known fine wines. The winemaker and owner of Volcano Vineyards will pour his and others' wines while sharing stories about wine making in Oregon. Dinner will follow at a private residence where your personal chef will make a delicious meal to be paired with the wine you chose at Volcano Vineyards.
Day Two:
A full day of skiing or boarding at Mt. Bachelor. Bachelor is one of the largest resorts in North America. Skiers and snowboarders will find great conditions, plenty of snow, big terrain and short lift lines. Mt. Bachelor offers nearly 3,700 acres of varied terrain and is known for dry snow and its great skiing and riding. Typically we partake in Freeride Programs from Mt. Bachelor's cadre of instructors. The program enables more advanced skiers and boarders to experience all that Mt. Bachelor has to offer, including the steeps, parks and pipes or the trees.
After a hard day on the mountain, apres ski will provide an opportunity to relax and share the day's spoils with others in the group. Later dinner will mirror the night before, with the same great staff and another delicious meal.
Day Three:
Our outfitter will meet us at the hotel for a day of mountain biking and white-water rating. Once fitted with mountain bikes and helmets, we will weave mainly downhill on sinuous, heart thumping, single-track trails that will challenge riders of all skill levels. Along the way we will come across knotted logs, rocks, berms and bumps that can add to the difficulty of the ride. We can go around them or through them. On an Optical Edge adventure you control the intensity gain. High, low or somewhere in between - the choice is yours.
With the rocks and logs behind us, we will arrive at Deschutes River for our picnic lunch overlooking the river. We will feast on fresh ingredients, including organic breads and meats and desserts from local vendors. It is a great chance to recount our mountain biking adventure while relaxing in the majestic beauty of Central Oregon's forest.
After lunch, we will hike down the river trail adjacent to Deschutes River to our next activity. This majestic hike will give us a chance to appreciate the different flora and fauna that exists in Central Oregon while working off the delicious food we just ate. The misty smell of the river and the gentle babble of water rolling over rocks will prepare us for our next activity - River Rafting!
We will don personal flotation devices and receive instruction regarding operation and safety aboard the raft. Our endeavor down the river will give everyone an opportunity to work together as a team as we traverse the Class II-III rapids. The view from the river is stunning and provides another perspective of the trees, mountains and river's ecosystem. Every now and then, we encounter wild animals such as deer, birds of prey and plenty of fish. Our guide will fill us in on all the details of the river, how to read it and strategies to navigate our raft through the rapids.
After rafting, you will be tired and perhaps a little sore after working some of your less-used muscles, so it is time for a massage! The transfer to the day spa only takes a few minutes, where each guest will be able to relax with a 45-minute massage and another 45-minute treatment selected from the array of services available, including a Men's Fitness Facial, different body treatments and more.
Day Four:
After breakfast, our outfitter will pick us up for a day of rock climbing at Central Oregon's Smith Rock, world renowned for its spectacular views and well-rounded topology. Our guides will dial the intensity of the climbs based on our group's experience and will provide excellent top roping routes suitable for both experienced and beginning climbers. We can take a Beginning, Intermediate or Advanced rock skills course, and those wanting more challenging routes and opportunities to lead will be taken to areas commensurate with their desires and abilities. The basic course will cover the fundamental skills of rock climbing, including: knots and rope skills, belaying, rappelling, as well as climbing techniques and movement. Regardless of the course we choose, there will be plenty of granite grabbing, belaying and amazing views. Everyone is guaranteed his or her fill of fun and excitement.
After a busy day of climbing, you will return to your roomy cabin class chartered aircraft for the trip home. Whether you fall asleep or remain awake, you will enjoy the benefits of a hassle-free chartered flight: no TSA security delays or long queues, as well as a hired car waiting at the municipal airport of your choice to whisk you home or to your hotel. Food is also available on the flight by request, so sit back, relax and let OE Adventures pour you a glass of wine.
